More Fans in the Seats

CEDAR CITY: Utah -- Jayden Fan Name: Raz Taz Jay

Given last nights performance by the Southern Utah Universitys mens basketball team its safe to say they have the talent to make a huge impact in the 2018-2019 season.

On the other hand, lets not forget the other aspect of the sports team: the fans. Believe of not, the fans play a role in the morale of the team and as well as the 12th man in distracting the opponent.

This season the athletic department should focus on getting more fans in the seat by giving the students a chance to get to know the players better. By the same token the players should be marketing themselves better and being more engaged with students activities so the students are aware of the talents on this years team and the winning potential they have this season.

Some more specifically the athletic department could promote individual players by placing posters of these players around campus giving a small description about the player and the skills he brings to the team.

This is an overall effort, therefore every one needs to play there part. We need to be bigger than basketball. By having more fans at basketball game we demonstrate a sense of community.

Taco'ing to Strangers CEDAR CITY, Utah --This past Tuesday, I gathered a diverse group of student with different cultural background to experience one of Cedar City's best local Mexican restaurants called Lupitas. One of the best things about SUU is the cultural diversity that gives this place a worldly energy. A place that no matter your cultural background you can find your place among caring and supportive community members. If just for a moment you feel lost, there is someone their to walk this new path with you and guide you. Final Minute -Nestor Zapata As we approached the lights coming out of the tunnel, I still had not looked at my opponent once. From my peripheral, all I can notice was that he was definitely Goliath and I was David. I've wrestled guys his size before but this was the semi-final match in the San Diego County Masters Championships and the winner was guaranteed a spot at the California State Championships. My opponent was Jose Leon from Vista, California, a school known very well for their wrestling program. The whole match he dominated, controlling the tempo and being quite impossible to take down. As we entered the final period he led the match 11-3 and I knew his strategy going into would be to stall and keep his distance.
