More Fans in the Seats

CEDAR CITY: Utah -- Jayden Fan Name: Raz Taz Jay

Given last nights performance by the Southern Utah Universitys mens basketball team its safe to say they have the talent to make a huge impact in the 2018-2019 season.

On the other hand, lets not forget the other aspect of the sports team: the fans. Believe of not, the fans play a role in the morale of the team and as well as the 12th man in distracting the opponent.

This season the athletic department should focus on getting more fans in the seat by giving the students a chance to get to know the players better. By the same token the players should be marketing themselves better and being more engaged with students activities so the students are aware of the talents on this years team and the winning potential they have this season.

Some more specifically the athletic department could promote individual players by placing posters of these players around campus giving a small description about the player and the skills he brings to the team.

This is an overall effort, therefore every one needs to play there part. We need to be bigger than basketball. By having more fans at basketball game we demonstrate a sense of community.

Learn to Taco About It

Learn To Create Simple Delicious Tacos One Taco Night - It began as a normal night in Mareno Valley California, with nine of us arguing about what we should have for dinner. You heard pizza in one corner and burgers in the other corner. As I started looking through the fridge I immediately saw the answer to the our problems. A pack of yellow organic tortillas, staring at me right in the face. I just smiled back, as ideas began turning in my head. What kind of meat would we cook?, does this fridge also have salsa, were there vegetables? if so  what kind? It would seem as a trip to the grocery store was in place. Everyone still did't know what was going on but as I started to leave I simply turned back and said "tacos" No Experience Need- It doesn't take a fancy culinary degree to put together creative tacos ideas that manifest in your head. I recommend you lead from stomach and listen to what it is trying to say. Although I suggest you don't begin thi...

Tacos Nations

Taco'ing to Strangers CEDAR CITY, Utah --This past Tuesday, I gathered a diverse group of student with different cultural background to experience one of Cedar City's best local Mexican restaurants called Lupitas. One of the best things about SUU is the cultural diversity that gives this place a worldly energy. A place that no matter your cultural background you can find your place among caring and supportive community members. If just for a moment you feel lost, there is someone their to walk this new path with you and guide you. Its part of the reason I chose Taco Tuesday as a way to guide anyone who walking alone in the unknown to a place of the known. At first Taco Tuesday was just another reason to eat tacos like Cinco De Mayo or Quinceneras. It was a reason to meet up with friends and spend pocket change on delicious tacos. Even though Taco Tuesday has a catchy ring to it and that would be the preferred day to grab some tacos but a lot of people have busy work da...

Chester Without Boarders

" I feel like a person with no country, " said Nestor Zapata after a one-on-one interview with this immigrant from Mexico who been in the United State for 30 years and now finds himself in Cedar City, Utah. For most of us getting to this country was as simple as signing a piece of paper but for others, it meant walking, jogging, sprinting, and even crawling to get here. It hasn't been easy for Nestor to get this point in his life and even found himself facing death many times. Here we have a this DACA student who has left his home in California to escape the demons that have pushed him to the edge but still managed to never jump. Throughout the years Nestor has had roadblocks in his life when it came to the topic of his immigration status. Let me clarify, at the age of 16 when he attempted to obtain his driver's license, the DMV turned him away because only residents or citizens were allowed to carry a drivers license. Seriously? from an economic perspective wouldn...
