Birthday Blindside

-- It was a sunny cool temperature day in San Diego and I remember listening to Santeria by Sublime on the radio as we drove south on the Interstate 5 freeway. My friend Nathan had told me that we were on going to a Polish picnic in Mission Bay and that there would games so I should wear shorts. It was Sunday so I chose to wear my Denver Broncos t-shirt not knowing that it would come to mean a great deal shortly. He asked me to reach into the glove compartment and pull out an envelope containing directions to the park. Once I opened it I realized it wasn't a sheet of paper but two tickets to the Denver vs San Diego game that was happening in two hours. I was speechless and filled with excitement as he told me "happy early birthday". He then reached behind him and pulled a hat with the Broncos logo on it and gave it to me. That day was my first ever Pro football experience and I remember it because 70% of the fans there were Broncos fans. Walking into the stadium you could notice nothing but waves of orange jerseys mobbing to the entrance. I was so excited to get to my seat that I forgot to get beer. When I looked at the field the first player I noticed was Payton Manning warming up. Then I looked around the the stadium and for a moment I thought I was in Denver because there was nothing but a sea of blue and orange in the stands. It was great game but when you have a player like Payton Manning you know your chances of winning are great. In the end Denver won 22-10 and my exit from the stadium was hard because every Charger fan on the way out booed and gave me dirty looks. It also didn't help that i had a giant smile on my face. I can say that this was my best birthday gift ever and the best part was that I never saw it coming.

Learn to Taco About It

Learn To Create Simple Delicious Tacos One Taco Night - It began as a normal night in Mareno Valley California, with nine of us arguing about what we should have for dinner. You heard pizza in one corner and burgers in the other corner. As I started looking through the fridge I immediately saw the answer to the our problems. A pack of yellow organic tortillas, staring at me right in the face. I just smiled back, as ideas began turning in my head. What kind of meat would we cook?, does this fridge also have salsa, were there vegetables? if so  what kind? It would seem as a trip to the grocery store was in place. Everyone still did't know what was going on but as I started to leave I simply turned back and said "tacos" No Experience Need- It doesn't take a fancy culinary degree to put together creative tacos ideas that manifest in your head. I recommend you lead from stomach and listen to what it is trying to say. Although I suggest you don't begin thi...

Tacos Nations

Taco'ing to Strangers CEDAR CITY, Utah --This past Tuesday, I gathered a diverse group of student with different cultural background to experience one of Cedar City's best local Mexican restaurants called Lupitas. One of the best things about SUU is the cultural diversity that gives this place a worldly energy. A place that no matter your cultural background you can find your place among caring and supportive community members. If just for a moment you feel lost, there is someone their to walk this new path with you and guide you. Its part of the reason I chose Taco Tuesday as a way to guide anyone who walking alone in the unknown to a place of the known. At first Taco Tuesday was just another reason to eat tacos like Cinco De Mayo or Quinceneras. It was a reason to meet up with friends and spend pocket change on delicious tacos. Even though Taco Tuesday has a catchy ring to it and that would be the preferred day to grab some tacos but a lot of people have busy work da...

The Problem With Professional Sports

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Some get into the professionals for the fame, some for the love of the game and others strictly for the fortune. My biggest concern is how they get to these that affects the integrity of the game. I personally love players that perform day in and day out because that is their  passion and everything else in secondary. The problem with professional sports today is the use of illegal performing enhancing drugs. We have these athletes that take these drug in order to run faster, jump higher, hit harder. Players are being more focused on their personal brand and acting like they're bigger then the team itself. When players are offered a big contract it seems as their performances go down. Once they signed the big check, they seem to coast through the rest of their careers. Then of course we have the athletes who play the game till the very end with passion, influence the game off the field. These players like Lebron James for example have the mental ability and ...
