Thunderbirds Lose to Wyoming in the Final Minutes

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Despite scoring the first goal the, Southern Utah University soccer team lost to the Wyoming Cowgirls 2-1 in the final non-conference home game of the  2018 season. The SUU Thunderbirds fall to 1-7 while Wyoming improve to 5-1-2.

The Thunderbirds came out strong controlling possession for most of the first half. Excellent box-box play by Saki Watanabe kept the Wyoming offense in check and prevented them from building any momentum.

Great ball movement combined with excellent dribbling from Brielle Bourgeois led to a beautiful through ball from the midfielder to Makenzie Lawrence. Lawrence then slotted it into the back of the net for the score in the 29 minute and recorded her second goal of the season.

The Cowgirls tied it up in the second half following some confusion in the back line from the Thunderbirds allowing Sakoya Romera to score in the 68 minute. It got worse for SUU in the final minutes, as an own goal in the 84 minute gave Wyoming the 2-1 lead.

"I thought the first half was pretty good, but we have to get used to playing with a lead. It's just something we are not used to yet", said head coach Fred Thompson

SUU could not find the equalizer down the stretch despite some great attacking.

The Thunderbirds are on the road next week at Cal Baptist University on Sunday, September 16 at 4:30 p.m as they look to close out their final non-conference game with a win before opening conference play against Weber State University.

Learn to Taco About It

Learn To Create Simple Delicious Tacos One Taco Night - It began as a normal night in Mareno Valley California, with nine of us arguing about what we should have for dinner. You heard pizza in one corner and burgers in the other corner. As I started looking through the fridge I immediately saw the answer to the our problems. A pack of yellow organic tortillas, staring at me right in the face. I just smiled back, as ideas began turning in my head. What kind of meat would we cook?, does this fridge also have salsa, were there vegetables? if so  what kind? It would seem as a trip to the grocery store was in place. Everyone still did't know what was going on but as I started to leave I simply turned back and said "tacos" No Experience Need- It doesn't take a fancy culinary degree to put together creative tacos ideas that manifest in your head. I recommend you lead from stomach and listen to what it is trying to say. Although I suggest you don't begin thi...

Tacos Nations

Taco'ing to Strangers CEDAR CITY, Utah --This past Tuesday, I gathered a diverse group of student with different cultural background to experience one of Cedar City's best local Mexican restaurants called Lupitas. One of the best things about SUU is the cultural diversity that gives this place a worldly energy. A place that no matter your cultural background you can find your place among caring and supportive community members. If just for a moment you feel lost, there is someone their to walk this new path with you and guide you. Its part of the reason I chose Taco Tuesday as a way to guide anyone who walking alone in the unknown to a place of the known. At first Taco Tuesday was just another reason to eat tacos like Cinco De Mayo or Quinceneras. It was a reason to meet up with friends and spend pocket change on delicious tacos. Even though Taco Tuesday has a catchy ring to it and that would be the preferred day to grab some tacos but a lot of people have busy work da...

Wake Up Thinking Tacos

Not Just Another Tuesday My Tuesday - don't start off like any another Tuesday, they usually starts off hungrier than most days. By now the meaning of Tuesday has grown to mean more than just another day, in American culture this day now belongs to tacos. Tuesday and Tacos - go together more than peanut butter and jelly and by the same concept bring people together. Of, course going hiking or playing videos with your friends is cool but have you ever feasted on a large number of tacos with buddies for a low price of just 69 cents a taco. I get up Tuesdays thinking "where will we meet today for tacos." It brings a big smile to my face as time get closer to the moment my friends and I get together to share another great taco experience. Tuesday Twist- Since this is the country of land opportunity, then why not give other cultures from the around the chance to inspire Taco Tuesday with their different variations of tacos. At the University of Minnesota ...
