Cedar City, UTAH -- As far as I can remember and have learned some of the first sports ever played involved a spherical object of some sort going through a circular hole. It involved a competitive aspect that included aggression and tactics between two teams or people. In addition the thing I believe defined a sport was the physicality. The actual movement of body flailing around in strategic fashion to achieve markers the symbolize progress. Altogether these qualities end up producing a raw essence that actual sport uniquely produce.
To say that sitting down on your ass and remotely play games on a television for sport is dumb. If we let this slide eventually where do we draw the line. When do we say enough is enough. Long before technology the Ancient Aztec civilization played this Mesoamerican ballgame sport with ritual associations played since 1400 BC by the pre-Columbian people of Ancient Mesoamerica. The rules of this game are still quite not but it has been known to be similar to racquetball where it aimed to keep the ball in play.
Even after technology some of the first sports played in this country were unknown of or even considered a sport mainly because of a lack of exposure. Take lacrosse for example whom French observed from Native American playing and started adding rules of their own. The Native Americans used lacrosse to resolve disputes between two families and even believed it would turn their young boys into men. Can you imagine playing video games would turn young boys into men.
A sport needs to have that physical competitive element that breathe emotions only seen from the interaction of multiple human beings facing each other tackling challenges that involve athletic skills in the hopes of obtaining victory. Not to mention a solid or hollow sphere ovoid, especially one that is kicked, hit, or thrown in a game.
